At home in Richmond, London

I’m a university professor with over 25 years of research, writing and teaching experience in the UK, Ireland and worldwide. My specialism is Irish cinema, TV and cultural history, though I have taught extensively across English literature, film and media studies. 2016 saw me complete a five year stint of University management and refocus on teaching and research. This has included being appointed as Visiting Professor in Anglophone Literatures and Cultural Studies at the University of Vienna (Spring-Summer terms 2016 and 2017) and becoming a part-time Associate Tutor in English and Film at Birkbeck, University of London (2016/17). Search the navigation tabs above for more details.

In addition to these roles, I work as a free-lance academic consultant, researcher and private tutor. Work in 2016 has included co-curation of film festivals, seminars and screenings in Brazil (May) and London (November), public lectures in Vienna (May) and a key note in Leuven University (August) to a group of European and US doctoral research students. I am advisor to the 3 year Irish Cultural Centre, Hammersmith/University of Liverpool/Institute for Irish Studies Irish Language project, based in London, which started in September 2016. I also work as a  reader for publishers in Ireland, the UK and the US.

I have a record of success in research (British Academy, Culture Ireland, AHRC, and the Irish Government's Dept of Arts, Culture and Gaeltacht), public engagement activities and collaborative projects with community, arts and national cultural organizations including curation of film festivals in UK, Brazil and Argentina, consultancy (Irish Research Council) and conference/event management (IFI, Birkbeck).  If you are looking for an independent reviewer of REF outputs, HE curriculum documents (validations), a bid writer or private tuition (e.g. A Level or Bacc), dissertation advice and proof-reading, please contact me for details of fees/rates. For an overview  on what I got up to in 2016, including public lectures and seminars, see the News section and Blog. This section also includes upcoming projects for 2017.

My FHEA application statement is available. Submitted Feb 2017. Pending approval.
